Phase 1, Post 1: Identity, Technology, and Diversity

Updated: Feb 3, 2019

WE are surrounded by technology. WE are driven by it, influenced by it, and WE create it. Being influenced by something is a way our identities are formed and therefore, technology plays a part in the formation of "who we are". The background in which we come, our race, gender, culture, religion, etc. is what makes up our identity and it is also what makes us different from others- hence diversity.

The way we portray ourselves is a part of our social identity. It can deviate from our personal identity for people act differently in given environments/surroundings. People work hard on their identity and how they want to be seen. Similarly, people work hard on technology before it is presented. Both seek for the approval of others. Given one look something can be defined from an initial appearance. Likewise a person can be characterized based on their appearance or even their race, gender, culture, or religion. Essentially, diversity, identity and the things that define us are put out in society for others to see just like technology.

Diversity is a part of our identity because it defines a part of us.

Technology is influenced by identity and diversity in ways that a product may be geared towards a certain group/consumer.

The meanings of these words are mutable and in some sense all relate to each other, but they also have their own definitions.

Technology is a source of innovation that influences people, which can be both good and bad. It is a tool used in our everyday life that can shape the type of people we are. Identity is not only what we do or who we are, but is also the way we act. It has its own definition and is expressive of our personalities. Diversity is what makes us different from others, and what makes us the same. It can help bring people together based on similarities in background.

The three words have separate definitions, but when thought of together they correlate with one another in some way, shape, or form.
