Why I think these trends are present - from Kibera YouTube channel
I think one of the main things across these videos are to raise knowledge on how life is affected and different in Kibera. The country is underdeveloped and has to deal with many struggles. Throughout the videos it shows how each aspect of life is different there. For example in "Innovation for Security in Kibera" they discuss how placing cameras had avoided stealing in shops. This is a huge move in technology there because it is saving shop owners money. By investing in these cameras there has been a decrease in thieves because of this fear instilled by the cameras. In "The Plight of Disability in Kibera" the challenges of living with disability is shown and how there are not accommodations as easily accessible as they are here. From his article "Road Cuts Kibera in Two, Displacing Residents, Schools" Joshua tells stories of how girls have to face the impending fear of going to school. The residents of Kenya have to face the fears of the possibility of rape, assault, and much more. So the question remains "Is Kibera a Kind Place?".
Questions for Joshua Ogure:
Based on the video, what do you believe: Is Kibera a Kind Place? Are these new innovations and technology helping Kibera become a better place?
What kind of work do you do on a daily basis and why do you think it is important to address these issues that you so often see?
